Program Description: South Park's Minors (AAA) Baseball program is designed for players ages 9 and 10. Players in this division continue to focus on the fundamentals of fielding, throwing, catching, hitting and base running. In addition, this is the age group where players take over the pitching responsibilities. The focus on pitching is simple: throw hard and throw strikes. South Park does not allow players within the Minors (AAA) Baseball program to throw any type of breaking ball such as curves, sliders, etc. in order to minimize the chance of player injury. There are also rules in place which govern the maximum number of innings a player can pitch during any one week or over a three day span. Games consist of 6 innings, with maximum run rules in effect for competition purposes. By rule, every player must play at least one inning in the infield on defense during each game, and coaches are encouraged to rotate players to as many positions as possible during the season to allow opportunites for growth. All games are professionally umpired and there is a winner & loser of each game. However, in order to promote player development, regular season standings are not maintained. The ultimate champion and runner-up for the season are determined via an end-of-season tournament whereby the tournament brackets are determined via blind draw.
Age Requirement: Age is determined as of April 30, 2018. Players registering for Minors (AAA) Baseball should have a birth date between 5/1/07 and 4/30/09.
Team Selection: Teams are selected via player draft subsequent to the player evaluation sessions. The goal of the player draft is to create teams of equal abilities, thus leading to a balanced and competitive league.
Season: Practices will begin in late August and will generally be held once a week as well as on weekends prior to the commencement of games. Once the regular season begins, currently estimated to be the week of September 9th, practices will generally be held once a week as well as on Sunday afternoon if the game schedule allows. Games are generally one night during the week as well as on weekends. The regular season, as well as the end-of-season tournament, will be completed by November 4th.
