Program Description: South Park's Rookie Coach Pitch program is designed for 5 year old players who have previous tee ball experience as well as 6 year old players. The program is centered around continued teaching of the fundamentals of the game in a fun environment that is slightly more competitive than a standard tee ball program. In Rookie Coach Pitch, players will focus on the fundamentals of throwing, fielding, hitting and base running, with an emphasis on teamwork and good sportsmanship. Games will consist of 5 innings, with a maximum of 3 recorded outs or 5 runs scored per inning. A game score is not maintained in the Rookie Coach Pitch division. During the entire season, coaches will pitch to the players from a very short distance, with a maximum of 5 pitched balls per "at bat". If a player is unsuccessful in hitting a pitched ball, they will revert to the batting tee - there are no strikeouts in this age group.
Experienced 6 year old players (those who turn 6 years old by 8/31/18 and who have had a minimum of 2 seasons of prior baseball / tee ball experience) who are interested in "playing up" in the Coach Pitch (AA) Baseball division should register for the Rookie Coach Pitch division and include a note in the Special Requests section of the registration process that they would like to play Coach Pitch. Depending on space availability, those players may be invited to attend the Coach Pitch skills day assessments so that their abilities can be judged along with the other Coach Pitch participants. Ultimate participation in the Coach Pitch AA Baseball division is at the sole discretion of the Coach Pitch commissioner and will be determined by space availability and the player's perceived ability to compete at that level, as determined by the commissioner of the Coach Pitch (AA) Baseball division based on the player's performance during the skills day evaluation process. If it is determined that a player would not be able to successfully compete within this division, they will remain in the Rookie Coach Pitch program. Rookie Coach Pitch is only offered during the Spring season.
Age Requirement: Playing age for the Spring 2018 season is determined as of August 31, 2018. Players registering for Rookie Coach Pitch Baseball should have a birth date between 9/1/11 and 8/31/13.
Team Selection: There are no player evaluations for Rookie Coach Pitch Baseball. Teams are created and players assigned to teams based on the number of registered participants. We will make every effort to accommodate player / coach requests made during the registration process, but cannot guaranty that all such requests will be honored.
Season: Practices will begin in mid March, with games beginning in early April. The season will be completed by the end of May. Prior to the commencement of games, practices are generally held one night during the week at around 6:00 as well as on the weekend (times vary). Once the season begins, practices typically give way to games, and each team usually has a weeknight game as well as a weekend game, with an occasional practice as time / field availability allows.
Location: Practices and games are held at the following locations: (1) South Park's facility located at Carmel Middle School, (2) South Park's facility located at Lansdowne Elementary School and (3) Carmel Road Park.
