Can I register my son to play "up" in a higher age group or "down" in a lower age group?
You must register your son for the proper age group as defined by the birthday "cutoff" dates. Our experience has been that it is typically best for both the player and the league if the player participates in the proper age group. If, at the sole discretion of the Commissioner of Baseball, it is determined that a player's skill level far exceeds that of his peers, that player may be allowed to play "up". Likewise, if the player's skill level is determined to be significantly below that of his peers, he may be allowed to play "down". Please see the "Baseball Programs" tab for a detailed description of the various programs. If you have a desire for your child to "play up" or "play down", please indicate such desire in the comments section of the registration process.
What are the birthday "cutoff" dates for each age group?
Tee Ball: Birthday between 9/1/12 - 8/31/14
Rookie Baseball (Coach Pitch Hybrid): Birthday between 9/1/11 - 8/31/13
AA Baseball (Coach Pitch): Birthday between 5/1/09 - 8/31/11
AAA Baseball (Minors): Birthday between 5/1/07 - 4/30/09
Majors Baseball: Birthday between 5/1/05 - 4/30/07
When will my son's team practice?
Practices will begin subsequent to the completion of skills days and the player draft, which are currently scheduled for Saturday, August 19th. Prior to the start of the regular season, each team will have a weeknight practice as well as Saturday and Sunday practices. Once the season begins, practices are typically limited to Sunday afternoons.
When does the season start and end?
The beginning of the season is somewhat dependent on the number of teams in each league, which won't be known until the registration process is completed. At this point, it is estimated that games will commence approximately September 9th. Our goal is to complete the baseball season, including the end-of-season tournament, by November 4th.
How often do games occur?
Each team will typically play one game during the week as well as a game on Saturday. There are occasions whereby a team might have two weeknight games during a week or may play a Sunday afternoon game.
Where are practices and games held?
Practices are held at the South Park fields located at Carmel Middle School or at Lansdowne Elementary School. Games will typically be played at the South Park fields as well. To the extent that there is inter-league play with teams from another association, there is a possibility that a game could be held at the other association's field.
Can my son play baseball if they are playing another sport?
This is a question that can only be answered by the parents. Baseball is a fairly time consuming sport, and it is important that all players participate in practices and games. South Park typically strives to keep our team rosters fairly lean in order to maximize time spent on the field while minimizing time spent on the bench in the dugout. Having players consistently miss practices and/or games creates planning issues for the coaches and is not fair to the other kids on the team.
Does South Park supply equipment?
South Park will supply each player with a game uniform (hat, jersey, pants & socks). Each player will be required to provide their own cleats, bat, glove and any other equipment they so desire. Baseball bats must meet the requirements of Dixie Youth baseball. In addition, all batting helmets must have a face mask.
Can you guaranty that my son will play on a certain team or with a certain friend?
South Park's goal is to create teams that are competitive and balanced. We will do our best to accommodate specific requests to play on certain teams or with certain individuals, but we cannot guaranty that the requests will be granted.
How much does South Park charge for its various baseball programs?
The registration fees for South Park's baseball programs are as follows:
Tee Ball - $150, Rookie Baseball (Coach Pitch Hybrid) - $160, AA Baseball (Coach Pitch) - $235, AAA Baseball (Minors) - $250, Majors Baseball - $265, Babe Ruth - $300
